Donkey
Donkey is proud, and he knows it! Always a cute photo op and everyone’s favorite, Donkey has come a long way. He was rescued from a kill pen in Oklahoma, known for its abusive conditions. Thankfully, we were able to find him at Little Hooves and bring him with Phinneas to Robin’s Nest. He’s a keeper!
Sponsor Donkey and his journey from kill pen to service. We rescue them. They save us.
Donkey is a charming miniature donkey who joined RNR in 2021. We collaborated with Little Hooves Rescue, another San Diego organization, to provide Donkey with his forever home at Robin’s Nest. Rescued from a “kill pen” in Oklahoma, he was around two to three years old when he arrived. Donkey loves to frolic in our open area alongside his buddy Phinneas. He’s strong yet gentle, intelligent yet curious, loving but cautious—and undeniably handsome! His dislikes include apples and being told what to do.
Miniature farm animals are particularly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Some farms intentionally breed smaller animals, often resulting in health issues, just to maximize profits—charging as much as $15,000 to $20,000 each for their “cuteness.” Additionally, these miniatures are frequently victims of extreme hoarding situations, impacting tens of thousands of them each year.
Mini Myths:
Mini donkeys can “pack” up to 50% of their body weight. Not true! They are not Hercules and can only hold up to 20% of their weight.
All donkeys are guardians. Not necessarily. Some do have a protective nature, but especially mini donkeys do not have the strength to protect against large predators. (Our Donkey has demonstrated his protector skills!)
